Vale Jim Kilroy
John B. “Jim” Kilroy (May 1, 1922 – September 29, 2016) owned and raced the record-breaking Kialoa sailboats from the 1950s to the 1980s, helping pioneer the era of maxi yacht racing.
In both 1982 and 1983 Jim Kilroy won the Lord Nelson Trophy racing on Kialoa IV and earlier this year we saw the return of Kialoa III at Antigua Sailing Week, a beautifully restored modern classic.
We offer our condolences to Jim’s family and friends and all of the teams that have worked with him over the years. We are sad that he will not be able to make it back for our 50th Antigua Sailing Week Lord Nelson Trophy Winners Ball but we will be sure to raise glass in his name.
Below is the video including footage from the return of Kialoa III to Antigua Sailing Week earlier this year.
