Antigua Sailing Week (ASW) and the Environmental Awareness Group of Antigua and Barbuda (EAG) have joined forces with Sailors for the Sea. Sailors for the Sea is an ocean conservation non-profit organisation that focuses on promoting clean regattas in the sailing and boating community. This is an independent third party verification programme that encourages such ocean events to be environmentally responsible and to do their utmost to reduce their impact on our oceans and coastal waters. A “Sailor’s Pledge” has been posted for all the participants of the regatta. To see how we are asking all participants to help.
We are equally interested in reducing the impact on land by working towards a trash-free/zero waste regatta – that is keeping waste in the bins instead of on our shoreline or in our waters. Also, as much as possible to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We hope everyone will play their part to support a cleaner regatta venue.
Official ASW sponsors, partners, restaurants and bars, the media, the planning team and the resident population including party goers all have a role to play in this endeavour. We all benefit from a cleaner and greener regatta. Therefore we respectfully request everyone’s support in helping us make this the most environmentally-friendly sailing event possible.
Working tirelessly alongside ASW and the EAG to promote and support these initiatives are Rubber Duck Recycling, Antigua and Barbuda Waste Recycling Corporation, Antigua & Barbuda Solid Waste Management Authority, Nelson’s Dockyard National Park, Themba Bio Fuels and Local Oils Ltd.
If someone from these organisations reaches out to you, please give them the opportunity to share with you how you can help us all to reach our goals.
