Digicel is again back on board as the official communications sponsor of Antigua Sailing Week 2014. Providing the AntiguaSailing Week team and visitors with vital internet technology is an essential part of the event, especially as it pertains to delivering fast internet to get the results out to boats each day.
For 2014 however, Digicel is also bringing some of its own special style of excitement to an event during the week. Entitled‘Digicel Eat Street’, the evening of Thursday 1st May will be all about celebrating Antiguan food and culture. Commercial manager Janice Sutherland says of this year’s initiative, “Partnering with Antigua Sailing Week on Digicel Eat Street this year has really excited us as it will allow us to host an event that is all about bringing the community together, this time as part of Antigua Sailing Week.”
The evening begins at 6 pm and is located in Nelson’s Dockyard Car Park, which from Thursday 24th April, will be transformed into the food vendors’ village and has been aptly named the Wadadli Beer Grill for the week’s celebrations. It is the venue for the official party on the 1st May and will include steel pan, drummers and dance and Serpent and crew keeping everyone entertained.
For Digicel what makes this night special is the opportunity to promote all of the vendors who have booths located in the Wadadli Beer Grill who will be on duty late into the night for more than a week, delivering their excellent signature food and offering a fantastic liming spot for everyone, whether it’s for crew dinners or just a fun lime for everyone who wants to soak up the atmosphere of Antigua Sailing Week.
Patrice Christian-Simon, Marketing Manager of Digicel says, “We will be profiling each vendor between now and AntiguaSailing Week and sharing with you the details of their journey, who they are, what they do and why you should visit their booth during the week.” She goes on to say, “As an added incentive to the vendors to put on their best dishes andpresentation for the week, there are some handsets and other prizes up for grabs for the best vendors. Each night from opening of the village on Thursday 24th April through the entire week, mystery judges will visit the booths and make a decision on the best booths over the course of the week”. which will be announced during the Digicel Eat Street event.
The whole country will also have an opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice awards by sending a text message. Each boothin the vendors’ village will be assigned a text to win number that will be clearly marked on the booth as well as on social media. Christian-Simon says, “We look forward to engaging the whole country and encourage everyone to visit and taste test as many booths as possible before voting.” One lucky voter will also receive a great prize of a Digicel handset.
