Antigua Sailing Week is delighted to announce Digicel as a Silver Sponsor and the official telecommunications provider for its 2013 event. The agreement will enable Digicel to showcase its cutting edge 4G LTE technology. The super-fast internet speeds will play a critical part in delivering real time results directly to the regatta website as boats finish on the water as well as providing the race committee and media teams with the ability to communicate quickly and efficiently with the rest of the world.
Digicel’s Commercial manager Janice Sutherland says ‘The yachting sector is an important sector to the economy and as such it is vitally important that it has solutions designed specifically to cater to its unique requirements. We are offering a number of products to the visiting yachts to ensure that they can access technology on the move.’
The products include 4G USB modems and 4G plug and play modems which also allow for roaming within the Digicel network Caribbean wide, tourist SIM cards and low-cost handsets to enable crews to stay connected on the ground in Antigua without paying large roaming fees when they return home.
To ensure that visiting yachtsmen can acquire the right solution easily and quickly, the team at Digicel is working with businesses on the ground in the English Harbour area as well as having a booth on the lawn at Antigua Yacht Club. Retailers include e3 Systems, Image Locker, Genys Internet Café, Caribit, Crab Hole Liquors, Anchor Concierge and Jane’s Yacht Services.

Many of our visitors, whether here for Antigua Sailing Week or for other events, regularly return to Antigua and to the region within the same season and throughout the years. Digicel will host a booth on the lawn at Antigua Yacht Club from Thursday 25th through Sunday 28th April and will have its LTE gaming zone available to try on Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Tuesday 30th April at the big parties in Nelson’s Dockyard. Digicel will also be awarding five prizes throughout the week to people involved in Antigua Sailing Week who exhibit how to ‘Be Extraordinary’. Whether on the water, in the media room, volunteering, at the committee desk or at the party, five lucky people will walk away with either one of two Digicel LTE Dongles and one month’s free rental or one of three Samsung 5360 handsets.
