Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas program is the world’s only certification system for water based events. One part education, two parts activation, the Clean Regattas program unites and mobilizes sailors by offering support and resources to help heal the ocean. With over 650 Clean Regattas certified since the program’s inception and 264,000 sailors—they’re raising the bar for environmental sustainability and ocean health. Antigua Sailing Week is delighted to continue its association with such an important environmental movement.
Over the coming year with Sailors for the Sea’s assistance we will be working hard to adopt new methodologies and challenge the way we work in all aspects of the regatta to ensure that we do our part in ‘Cleaning up’ our regatta services, and will be working with many yachting stakeholders in Antigua to make this happen. To help with this, we would love for you to become part of this initiative.
When it comes to loving the ocean, it’s all about chemistry. Every year, one third of our CO2 emissions are absorbed by the sea. As a result we’re changing the chemistry of the ocean. It’s called Ocean Acidification–it’s as if the pH in your blood changed, causing your bones to dissolve. This Valentine’s Day show the ocean some love by taking the NT3 pledge at http://sailorsforthesea.org/nt3 to reduce your carbon footprint.
