Nick Lykiardopulo's Ker 55 Aera won the inaugural Gulf Stream Series. Lykiardopulo is a member of the Storm Trysail Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club. Tapio Saavalaine's Grand Soleil 37 Kalevala II placed second, and Jim Swartz' Swan 601 Moneypenny came third. Racing the 2007 Gulf Stream Series will be scored under the IRC endorsed rating system either in specific fleets, divisions or classes and events may be dual scored along with other systems such as the CSA in the Caribbean. Racing will be by individual entry and by two-boat teams representing nations, yacht clubs, or other sailing associations for the Gulf Stream Trophy and the Gulf Stream Team Trophy.
The Notice of Series and entry information will be available on the USIRC web site: http://www.us-irc.org/
The series will be scored based upon the results of completed events as follows:
GROUP (1) Medium Distance Races Each competitor shall complete one race of the following races, Ft. Lauderdale to Key West Race OR the Storm Trysail Club Block Island Race OR Stamford Yacht Club's Vineyard Race.
GROUP (2) Long Distance Races Each competitor shall complete one race of the following races: Pineapple Cup Montego Bay Race OR The Annapolis to Newport Race OR The Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race

Each FLEET in Groups 1 & 2 and each CLASS in Groups 3 & 4 events must start with a minimum of 5 yachts with IRC endorsed certificates if the event is to qualify for the series. Yachts finishing more than the minimum number of events in any group may discard their worst score(s) in that group.
Each yacht's individual score in the distance races, Groups 1 & 2, will be determined by her finish position in the endorsed certificate IRC fleet divided by the number of starters in that fleet. Each yacht's individual score in other regattas, Groups 3 & 4, will be her overall finish position within the IRC Endorsed yachts within her class divided by the number of IRC Endorsed yacht starters in that class. Each yacht's score for the Gulf Stream Series will be the sum of its points of its qualifying events. Each team's scores will be the sum of each yacht’s individual qualifying scores. The lowest score wins.
