ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK ART COMPETITION KICKS OFF 11 Mar, 2013
The nation’s youth can once again showcase their artistic prowess with the commencement of the 46th Annual Sailing Week Art Competition.
The search is now underway to discover the next up-and coming artist that would have their Sailing Week-centric piece displayed in English Harbour, “welcoming” those taking part in this year’s Antigua Sailing Week activities.
The LIAT-sponsored art competition challenges private and public school students; between the ages of 5 and 18, to artistically depict what Sailing Week means to them.
The competition’s co-ordinator, Thalia Burton, from the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association (AHTA), said there are “endless possibilities” for the students’ submissions.
“It’s always a pleasure to see the talent and imagination of the students. I am excited to see what the students will come up with,” Burton said.
She added, the original artwork could include the artists’ rendition of the sea itself, the coastline, sailing vessels or people, “anything” related to Antigua Sailing Week.
Any medium can be utilised, however, the piece cannot be larger than 12×12. The last day for submissions is April 15.
Antigua State College student Janelle Brotherson was the overall competition winner last year.
This year’s competitors have the opportunity to win two airline tickets, art supplies, cameras and MP3 players.
